The Interview
1. Can you tell us something about yourself and what you do?
I was born and raised in the bay area; my parents live in concord California and are still together after 39 years of marriage (PRETTY AWESOME). I have 3 older brothers. My mom is Mexican and my fathers Italian so I grew up in a very strict household, my dad actually told me one night when I was complaining about why do the boys get to go out or do whatever and he told me “natty its because they are boys” just like that and that’s how it was. I was a major tomboy because I wanted to do whatever my brothers did and they played sports so I played sports and had to become good so they would let me play too. My family is what makes me tick and I strive in making them proud.
I just recently started professionally modeling because of the 2012 Powertec competition that I entered, ever since I won that in September my life has really changed. It helped me focus on what I truly want out of my life and career choice by opening doors that I could not have done on my own.
2. How many years have you been a professional model ? and what would you say is the greatest benefit of being one?
I have been modeling now for a few years ever since I graduated college and recently just became way more serious since the competition. The best benefit for me so far is the travel and people. I get to go to some amazing places and get to interact and meet people that I would have never gotten the opportunity too. I feel extremely blessed and grateful for that. Natalie is a huge example of that because of this competition I not only got to meet her but also shoot with her, she seriously is someone who I really look up too because she is a triple threat not only is she beautiful she is extremely business savvy in her brand, I can only hope to follow her foot steps.
3. How did you start as a model? Would you say that it was easy for you to conquer the modeling industry?
I started modeling a few years back by going to a open casting call for LA fashion week and ended up opening and closing one of the shows. This industry is not easy especially if you don’t have a great support system behind you, and if you don’t really know what you want out of it because you can and will get pulled in a million different directions getting told a million different things.
4. What made you decide to become a model? Was it your ultimate dream since you were young?
Ever since I was a little girl I did have the dream of becoming a model but then having three older brothers I wanted to fallow their footsteps and that’s what I did so I became an athlete. It wasn’t till I was done with college that I stumbled upon modeling and acting once I did I was hooked.
5. How do you maintain your figure?
Entering this competition I started training completely different then what I normally did which was weight lift and cardio. I started to incorporate Pilates and cycling classes into my routine. Once I did that I really started to notice a major change in body. I really am so thankful for Cyclelates studios in Hollywood because they changed my body as well as my diet.
6. Do you have a beauty regimen?
The only beauty regime I have is to always wash my face before I go to bed I have really sensitive skin so if I don’t I’m super prone to breaking out, and I always wear sunscreen.
7. Do you take food supplements?
The only thing I will have is a protein shake after working out to make sure I get my 20gms of protein in.
8. You have been competing, What made you decide to? And how does it feel so far? Does joining add to your accomplishment as a professional model?
The Powertec Model & Fitness competition I did was the first ever show/competition that I have ever done. I am so thankful I did it because it was more than I could have ever dreamed for. It really is all because of the studio I was training at I actually got started through the owner of CYCLELATES studios in Hollywood CA. Bambi the owner approached me and said she thought that I really would be great in this up coming competition, if I just really buckled down and started coming to class to train on a consistent basis. I took what she said and ran with it I began working out in her studio doing Pilates and cycling classes. Doing those classes really transformed my body lengthening out my muscle an got me ready to compete in the 2012 POWERTEC MODEL & FITNESS competition which I WON 1st place.
I truly am so grateful to Bambi Martin because she really believed in me an had she not mentioned what she thought my potential could be I wouldn’t be here right now giving this interview:)
9. How did competing and winning 1st place over all with the recently concluded 2012 Powertec Model and Fitness World Finale affect your career as a model? What was the experience like?
I seriously don’t know how to express my gratitude to Powertec and FMI. Ever since winning this competition my life has changed dramatically I was able to sign with one of the top sports agencies in LA Sports Lifestyle and Fitness, I work regularly I have done 2 fitness campaigns, a sketchers commercial, graced 2 covers, launching my website and the list continues, this is all within the last 2 months I am beyond thankful and just am really excited to continue on this journey. “Sky’s the limit”
10. What preparations do you do prior to competing?
Since this was my first competition I really was a virgin in how to prepare etc. I really just trained as hard as I could and ate the best I have ever done in my life, meaning before I would eat ok sneaking in little cheats here and there this time I was strict and stayed focused all the way through.
11. What plans do you have in the future? Do you plan on getting into business related to fitness or modeling?
I’m really excited for the future because not only winning this competition opened others doors in the modeling world but it also has given me the proper tools through attending the FMI conference. Attending this conference was a part of my winnings I got a scholarship to this amazing conference and it is all about teaching you how to turn yourself into a business and that’s exactly what I plan on doing reaching out to people and sharing my story!
12. On your free time, how do you spend it?
On any free time that I have I love love love going to the movies and spending time with my family.
13. You have the love for sports right? and You are known to be a big fan of the San Francisco Giants, can you tell us about this?
Yes I was born and raised in the bay area so going to Candlestick Park, which is now AT&T, was the biggest treat. I will never forget my first game I was probably 5 years old, I was at the game with all my brothers and parents, it was a tie ball game and WILL the “THRILL” CLARK steps up to bat with 2 outs mind you I stand up an yell “hit a homerun will” and my family my witness he did, my dad turned to one of the guys selling souvenirs and buys me a tiny little GIANTS teddy bear that I ended up naming WILL and still have him to this day, that little guy has made it through every single one of my moves and will be with me forever. Ever since that day I have been a die-hard giants fan it’s in my blood!!!! I bleed orange and black, haha!
14. What would you say is your greatest influence?
My greatest influence by far are my parents they have not only showed me what hard work looks like but they have always been there for me through everything good and bad.
