You know why I love photography so much? It’s like the grown up version of playing with dolls for me. When I was a little girl I had a nice Barbie collection (like a typical kid) with all of the bells and whistles. Outside of this, I really enjoyed making paper dolls because it allowed me to have direct creative input on the apparel & accessories. Then I would create my own paper magazine, affix my paper dolls into my book, and draw my story around them.
Today, I pre-plan all of my shoots by studying my inspiration image collection, my subject and I often help pick their outfits, decide their hair/makeup, pose them up, decide on the editorial narrative. Then afterwards I focus for hours doing post-production, contemplating the emotion I want from the images, thinking about how the writing pitch around this image would be.
Can’t say that all of my shoots are like this but the few that are within my creative control.. oh what joy!! <3
